LA1 - Affiliated Programs

Moreover, the shuttle service will allow produce basket drop-offs to the members of LA1. This will work in conjunction with the dining club pick-ups and drop offs.
This transportation service may take time to be developed and should be seen as a prototype example for a new generation of transportation services to be established by the city.

Farmer’s Market

A weekly farmers market shall be established in the LA1 area. The farmers market will serve as a sale’s point for the produce grown at the farm.  It will also encourage local residents to grow, sell and exchange home grown produce in some sort of guerilla-farming backyard initiative. Many residents in the area have underutilized yards, unharvested fruit trees and at the same time not enough money to buy healthy, fresh food. Part of the community outreach and educational program will help residents transform their yards into small-scale organic urban farms. This initiative should help the health of the residents on several levels as well as help them counteract rising food prices in normal grocery stores. Food stamps will be accepted as government subsidized payment for low-income families of the area.
Farmer’s Markets have been a proven method of adding a sense of community to a neighborhood and bringing fresh, healthy, locally grown produce at fair prices to the people.

Affiliated Programs are optional components that will support the IBU cause and can be located either on or off the LA1 site nearby. They may be run as sub-entities of the IBU or they may be run by entirely separate entities/individuals and only affiliated by proximity and shared philosophy.

Dining Club/Restaurant:

A dining club will serve as a social place for Angelinos to come together and enjoy exceptional fresh cuisine in a unique setting.
The LA1 project site is located only a 10 minute drive from the downtown business district and the club will offer an electric shuttle bus service to downtown, making it a most idyllic lunch and dinner destination for the business crowd and neighborhood residents alike. The dining club will offer mostly outdoor dining with spectacular downtown and sunset views in a garden setting.
(Note that a restaurant is not permitted with current zoning regulations but a private dining club should be allowed. A restaurant may be created in a close-by building off site).
This social setting will help the dissemination of ideas and serve as a sort of public relations interface to the city.

Farmer’s Basket:

The Farmer’s basket delivery service is a way to distribute the fresh produce by-weekly to the adjacent neighborhoods. Memberships of various degrees will entitle members to a fresh produce basket at set intervals. The produce baskets will be accompanied with recipe ideas for the seasonal produce and be customized to the clients.

Shuttle Bus:

As part of the full commitment to sustainability, the IBU LA1 will be looking at a sustainable transport system for its goods and its visitors. An electric shuttle service, powered by the energy farmed at the site, may be established. The shuttle bus will service local schools to shuttle students to and from the farm and dining club members from downtown LA.
